Classic Boba Milk Tea

A good few of our customers just enjoy a regular black milk tea with a scoop of boba without all the bells and whistles and I respect that. For this recipe, I’ll be teaching you how to make it if I were to make boba milk tea at home.

In this article, we'll be preparing the boba first. Once the boba is steeping, we'll move onto preparing the tea.

Total Time: 1 Hour 5 minutes Boba Time: 1 Hour Tea & Milk Time: 15 Minutes


Before Starting:

  • Measuring cups
  • Strainer
  • Timer
  • Scale
  • Sugar
  • Whole Milk (preferably)/ Almond/ Soy
  • Boba

Boba Preparation:

  1. Pour the amount of boba you wish to cook into a bowl.
  2. Get a pot, measure out 5 times the amount of water to boba and bring the water to a strong boil (best if the lid is trying to pop off).
  3. Dump in your boba into the pot and immediately stir to prevent boba from sticking to bottom of pot and set timer to 25 minutes.
  4. Continually stir every 5 minutes to ensure boba is not sticking to the bottom of pot.
  5. When 25 minutes is up, turn off flame and let the boba steep for another 25 minutes.
  6. After 25 minutes, strain boba and wash under cold water until excess residue are washed off and boba is cold to touch.
  7. Heat sauce pan pour 1/4 cup of water and 1/2 - 1 cup of brown sugar. Mix until brown sugar dissolves.
  8. Pour hot brown sugar over boba and let it marinate for 20 minutes before serving.

Milk Tea Preparation:

  1. Measure 30 grams of black or oolong loose leaf tea.
  2. Pour 34 ounces of water into pot and bring to a boil.
  3. Turn off flame and pour tea into pot and let it steep for at least 10 minutes.
  4. Strain tea leaves and make sure to squeeze excess water from leaves.
  5. Pour 1/2 of tea into a cup.
  6. Measure 1/4 cup of milk and mix with tea
  7. While tea is hot, mix in the levels of sugar you desire.
  8. Place in boba and serve with ice :)
